Watch: FKA Twigs—”Papi Pacify”

Check out FKA Twigs get her kinky on in her latest music video “Papi Pacify.” Co-produced by Arca, both the vocals and the beat are highly hypnotic and sensual and fit right in line with her previous release “Water Me.” Her album EP2 will be released on September 17 via Young Turks and if it plans to have more production by Arca, who played an important role on Yeezus, not only should we have an idea of what it’s going to sound like, it should also be a reason to get really excited about it. Watch FKA Twigs’ video “Papi Pacify” below.

Listen: Ryan Hemsworth ft. Lofty 305—”Against A Wall”

Ryan Hemsworth breaks away from doing remixes for artists such as Migos and A$Ap Rocky to working on a full-length album, Guilt Trips. “Against A Wall” is the lead-single for the album and is made up of choppy synths and hearty drums that quickly induce rhythmic head bobs and pleasant thoughts. Lofty 305 helps to set the tone with his soft vocals and his repetition of “love you.” It’s a really enjoyable track to listen to and get lost in. You can expect Guilt Trips on October 22 via Last Gang Records. Listen to “Against A Wall” below.

Death Grips—Birds

For those unfamiliar with Death Grips, the best way to break them down is one part beats, one part raps, and one part psychotic. Perhaps a more conventional way of describing them would be to say they’re an experimental Hip-Hop group from Sacramento, but that omits the shock-factor that is so fundamental to their sound. “Birds,” the latest single from Death Grips, seems to have certain characteristics in common with experimental producer Arca—who played a principal role in Kanye West’s latest album Yeezus—like loud distorted sounds, but to say that their music takes after Arca would be innaccurate, especially considering that Death Grips incorporate rap-like lyrics into their beats. They have a very unique sound that could come-off as non-enticing to the unsuspecting listener, but given a chance, one can easily come to appreciate and enjoy the steps they’re taking in the evolution of music. MC Ride has a slow flow that is oddly reminiscent of Shapeshifter affiliate Subtitle, but less rhythmic and more abstract. Check out “Birds” below and then maybe one more time for posterity and if you still don’t get it don’t worry, just chalk it up as for the birds. Continue reading

Helado Negro—Detroit

Download Roberto Carlos Lange’s funky single “Detroit” from his new album Island Universe Story Two under the alias Helado Negro. Having previously worked with Warp Record’s Guillermo Scott Herren, who is better known to the beat-making world as Prefuse 73, gives Roberto Carlos Lange about all the credibility that he needs to be considered an accomplished producer. However, Roberto, who currently calls Brooklyn his home, has quite a discography just by himself including the antecedent to this album (Island Universe Story One). “Detroit” is probably one the better tracks off his new album, but feel free to check out some of his other work on his SoundCloud page or purchase the entire album (available August 27) on his Bandcamp page, but whatever you do don’t forget to listen to then download “Detroit” below.  Continue reading

Swordplay & Pierre the Motionless—Tap Water

— In a parallel universe where Anticon rappers from the turn of the century became the hallmark for following generations of Hip-Hop, Swordplay & Pierre the Motionless’ Tap Water would have already gone gold, perhaps even platinum. Unfortunately, that tangent was … Continue reading
