Australian producer Ta-ku is back at it again with the release of his single “We Were In Love” from his album Songs To Break Up To which is set to drop sometime next month. If you’re unfamiliar with Ta-ku he’s someone that’s definitely worth researching. In 2013 alone he’s released three albums: Dowhatyoulove, RWRK Vol. II, and Low Fidelity, High Quality with Raashan Ahmad (all of which you can find here on Rhizome). Granted, the latter is a re-issue, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by the sound of it. Furthermore, he draws inspiration from other great producers such as Jay Dilla, for whom he released a two volume set titled 50 Days for Dilla (2012). Songs To Break Up To, however, looks to mark an evolutional leap in the artist’s career. “We Were In Love” is a harrowing work of art that features indescribably beautiful vocals from Jhene Aiko. For such a minimal beat, there are surprising amounts of depth and texture that stir the listener in a powerful way. Listen to and download “We Were In Love” below and be on the lookout for Songs To Break Up To in September via HW&W Records.
